The cafe is closing August 3rd
80 employees will lose their jobs. Rio City’s problem is it’s landlord - - the city.
Owners Stephanie & Mark Miller paid $250,000 a year in rent. They paid during lockdowns, unlike most Old Sac tenants on city property. Trouble began this. The city shut Rio City to repair a sewage line running in front of the restaurant. Closed the cafe from April 13 to May 23. Early June, the city declared the deck unsafe. Check out 15 cars, including classic VW Beetles and buses, Porsches, Citroens and BMWs featuring air-cooled engines popularized in the 1930s. New cars cycle in and out of the exhibit through September. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for vintage (65 and older), $10 for military and students, $6 for ages 6–17, and free for children 5 and younger.

The community is invited to a virtual information session to discover an innovative initiative focused on enhancing crucial habitats for local fall-run Chinook salmon and steelhead trout near River Bend, situated near River Bend Park in Rancho Cordova and the William B. Pond Recreation Area in Carmichael.
The virtual session offers an opportunity for residents to learn more and ask questions to the project team, including what neighbors and park visitors can expect during construction.

Location: Virtual – Register at the 2024 Habitat Project at River Bend – Sacramento Water Forum website The River Bend region plays a crucial role in preserving salmon and steelhead populations, serving as a vital habitat where these species congregate upon their return to the Lower American River. Past enhancement initiatives in 2013 demonstrated significant success, evidenced by a notable increase in redds, which are underwater depressions or “nests” utilized by female salmon for egg-laying.
