La Venadita
Featured: Inside Sacramento – Oak Park
2019
With décor inspired by the artistry of Frida Kahlo’s masterpiece “The Wounded Deer,” this hotspot for creative Mexican food is a homecoming for restaurateur Thomas Schnetz and his brother and business partner, David. The Schnetzes grew up in Sacramento and opened their first restaurant locally before establishing a string of successful eateries in the Bay Area. La Venadita is the Oak Park culmination of their experience, featuring the authentic cuisine Thomas learned to prepare during his frequent trips to Mexico. The menu at this Sacramento restaurant includes simple, tasty dishes such as crispy carnitas tacos, albondigas (meatball) tacos, enchiladas with mushrooms, asparagus and poblano cream, vegetarian chile relleno and combo plate classics. La Venadita means “little deer” and the restaurant’s logo derived from Kahlo’s self-portrait as a deer struggling to overcome fate. A full bar highlighted by tequila and mescal libations, including specialty margaritas, piña coladas and daiquiris, keeps customers refreshed and relaxed.
