This venerable Chinese food restaurant in the heart of downtown is a true testament to the American dream. The founder of the eponymous eatery immigrated to America from China in 1919 at age 16 with no money or identification and managed to open one of the city’s most iconic restaurants a mere 20 years later. Frank Fat’s is now the anchor Sacramento restaurant of the four establishments in the Fat Family Restaurant Group. It continues to impress with its fine dining menu and elegant interior 80 years later under the watchful eye of Fat’s youngest son, Jerry. Traditional favorites include house made pot stickers, Mandarin duck, Szechuan beef, honey walnut prawns that melt in your mouth and amazing assortments of chow mein, chow fun and fried rice, along with Fat’s specialty dishes like wok-fried spare ribs, brandy-fried chicken, a special-recipe wor won ton soup and their most decadent offering, a 16-ounce New York steak smothered in onions and oyster sauce.
