Sausage, tomatoes, potatoes, caramelized onions, olives and goat cheese provide essential sustenance at OneSpeed, a self-described “neighborhood pizza joint” whose ambition belies the name. This Sacramento restaurant opened in 2009 and was crafted around a bicycle theme. OneSpeed is a casual but sophisticated counterpoint to owner Rick Mahan’s superb Midtown Sacramento restaurant, The Waterboy. OneSpeed celebrates fresh and locally sourced ingredients and conjures simple flavors from dishes Mahan calls “seasonally relevant.” The pizzas are a joy, from the healthy garden pie to the meaty sausage pie. Options run deep at OneSpeed. Antipasto and spaghetti pomodoro represent classic fare. There’s even a burger, with a homemade bun stacked high with sautéed onions, peppers, white cheddar and rosemary mayonnaise.
