Scout’s Honor
High school senior earns Eagle rank with 30 badges
Eagle Scout rank has never been easy, but Greenhaven Pocket Scouts BSA Troop 259 knows the formula. Pocket resident Jacob Watson, a senior at C.K. McClatchy High School, is the troop’s 196th Eagle Scout.
Scouts must earn at least 21 merit badges to become Eagles. Watson collected 30 badges. “I liked earning the small boat sailing, camping and theater badges because those are activities I enjoy,” Watson says. “My Eagle project was deeply personal to me. My family attends the Congregation B’nai Israel in Land Park. I wanted to do something special for the temple.
“We only had an ordinary coat rack to hang prayer shawls. I decided to build a custom tallit rack for our shawls. I used a real redwood tree stump as the base. My project team built the piece in one week.”
Besides scouting and school, Watson makes time for theater arts, with lead roles in several NorCal Arts productions. He plans to study fine arts for musical theater in college.
YOUTH BASKETBALL
Greg Lake and his wife Mikeesa founded the Greenhaven Basketball Association with a simple goal: to ensure kids, age 10 and younger, learn the fundamentals of basketball in a nurturing environment. “All of our coaches provide fun sessions where kids can grow on and off the basketball court,” he says.

FALL CRAFTS FAIR
It’s never too early to start holiday shopping. Elks Lodge No. 6 hosts its annual Fall Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unique hand-crafted products will be offered by local artists and crafters.
HALLOWEEN PARTY
Kick off the spooky season at Lake Crest Village on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1–3 p.m. Retail shops and restaurants offer Halloween activities and a few surprises. For information, visit shoplakecrestvillage.com.
SPOOKTACULAR
Don your Halloween costumes and head to Robbie Waters Library on Saturday, Oct. 24. The library’s Teen Club will set up arts and crafts stations and distribute treat bags. Activities start at 7 p.m.
TRUNK OR TREAT
Greenhaven Neighborhood Church on Ark Way hosts a family-friendly Halloween event Sunday, Oct. 25, from 2–5 p.m. The event includes treats, games, crafts, a bounce house and petting zoo.
MONSTER MASH
Dance the night away at Elks Lodge No. 6 on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 6–11 p.m., with tunes by DJ Mario. Costumes are optional, but the most creative Halloween outfits win a prize. For tickets, call (916) 422-6666.
COMMUNITY MEETING
The quarterly Pocket-Greenhaven Community Association meeting takes place at Robbie Waters Library on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. Community members are invited.
GOLD ANNIVERSARY
